Show went on, as it must. But what a clusterfuck. Headliner was supposed to finish soundcheck at 4, didn’t start til 5:30. Partially cause their audio tech was dragging ass, but mostly because he figured he’d build his equipment racks today onsite.

Well, he, nor I could get the devices’ network talking properly. I’ve successfully used similar rigs, but he bought the one cheapest option that doesn’t work how he was told it would. Issue was this stand-alone mixer engine would not recognize the inputs and outputs. All other versions have a real display and controls, this had a 1” square screen and an encoder... so no control and whatever settings the iPad was pushing didn’t take. Found all this out hours after he told me everything was talking, oh and also I needed to mix stage speakers on the band’s rig, even though the whole idea is for them to do it themselves.

So we chased this shit way too long, finally, 1 hour til VIP meet and greet (must be silent) I called it and said we’re doin analog/ house gear. Did ~3 hrs of patch/ soundcheck in 1.5hr, fuckin show went on. Cruising til headliner lead vocal wireless mic took a shit. Should be on them to have a spare ready, of course they didn’t. Got em a replacement, all good.

At the end everyone is praising my buddy and I, ahhh you guys saved the show etc. Well who the fuck hired this tech at $1800 a week, who can’t do shit, and is name-dropping and bragging about previous gigs the entire time.

Ah fuckin whatever. All in all easy gig ultimately, just really really dumb.

Gotta sell a big raise for myself at the day job. That’s “ownership” over a $40m inventory of equipment.. Obstacles on the gig were just bullshit, once we were rolling all good.
