As for aluminum, that is aluminum mesh or an aluminum frame. The carbon is carbon on another substrate, commonly a plastic fiber. What exactly are you afraid of here? The aluminum isn't going to harm you. The plastic fibers are durable enough that they won't be breaking off and the whole thing is disposable anyway so they won't be in place for very long.
