I think that the insurance companies go by numbers (actuaries) and the data says men get in more accidents.
I'd have to see hard data before I believe women get into less accidents. I know the autobody industry a bit and the repeat customers are all women. Of course if you ask them it is never their fault. ;)
Girls get in more accidents but they are way less severe. Guys are most expensive because their accidents are bad.
Perhaps as another poster pointed out, they get in more wrecks but less damaging (and thus expensive) ones than men.
I do know that they’ve done study after study for decades that prove men engage in more risky behavior than women. That alone may be the answer to your question.
