The bible is full of intolerant bits, there are terrains on which outright intolerance isn't shocking for christians, and even mandatory

It's a common mistake for conservative politicians to try to tip toe around every single social issues, believing that it would offense everybody, their base included, because they have a naive perception of christianity. As a matter of fact it's the case for most people but when you look at the history of christianity, it's clear that it is anything but all about tolerance

Even if you take only the jesus character, he was quite intolerant of the money changers, to say the least. That's why he got crucified btw according to the christian narrative

Faggotry and "filth" are traditionally frowned upon in christian societies/cultures, as a matter of fact sexual relationships outside marriage aren't even supposed to happen to begin with, at that's not christian extremism, it's the way it's been since pretty much forever
