My father-in-law was a developer back in the 1980's. He got his hands on two miles of beachfront in Alabama. An inspection determined that there were some endangered mice in the weeds, and development was nixed. Today, that same stretch is a Beach Condo Ghetto. Somebody paid off the officials, I guess.
