I just learned that the US mint has redesigned the US bullion eagle coins. (not something I look at on a daily basis.)

Now the type one coins are sold at a very high premium - what's that - collector value?

The metal content of all three boxes is the same.

So, apparently the last time the mint changed these coins was about 30 years ago.

Traders seem to now prefer the older design.

I also prefer the type 1 over the type 2. Aesthetic preferences aside, the premiums they charge on those eagles, maples, libertads, and krugerrands are insane. They do tend to have a higher resale value long with being legal tender as an advantage, but my god the premiums, spot + $8-$10.

25k for 500 oz?!?! Holy hell
