I just learned that the US mint has redesigned the US bullion eagle coins. (not something I look at on a daily basis.)

Now the type one coins are sold at a very high premium - what's that - collector value?

The metal content of all three boxes is the same.

So, apparently the last time the mint changed these coins was about 30 years ago.

Traders seem to now prefer the older design.

The real price of silver isn't spot because all the dealers charge a premium. At any rate you want to buy as close to spot price as possible which usually means junk silver with no collector value unless your collecting.
