Like the other commenter said, you're looking at the government the way you were taught in government run schools. That is to say, the government is not the way it was explained to you. You were lied to. Think of the government as hostile and criminal. Looking at it this way will make much more sense to you as you get over your cognitive dissonance.

No one really knows who controls the president because the people behind the scenes are shrouded by many layers of compartmentalization. Sure, we believe people like George Soros, Bill Gates, Bezos, et. al., control the government. But it's more likely even they aren't the ones giving orders.

Governments are shifting power to corporations to side step any controls and accountability mandated by various constitutions. This creates a corporate feudal society. Think about how much power large multinational corporations exert today.

I can easily go on. But I think I made my point.
