Merchant badges are for score manipulation to my knowledge. It just occurred to me someone else could make an alt and go spam upvoting their opposition's posts to make it look like their opposition are vote manipulating, I figure most sites have enough user data to tell the difference these days though.

I learned that lesson in grade school. The teacher's point system never recognized me for being 'good' when the random award of teacher's points to 'good' kids happened. I noticed it was mostly noisy kids finally having some unintended quiet time and then getting surprise gifted with points, while the ones that regularly followed the teacher's rules were forgotten. I can't even remember what the reward was, but fast learned to ignore the points board and not waste time on a desire to be the points winner.
