You people dont seem to understand that any new local government that forms will not be using gold or silver as a currency for a very simple reason. All the gold and silver of the world is controlled by the same people that have led us into this mess. Why would you give power over your nation to whomever has the most gold and silver?

Back in the days any person could go out, do some labor, and extract gold from the ground. This made it an attractive standard because it was fair and its didn't create a significant power imbalance. That is no longer the case. If you are going to create your own local government you are going to want a currency that YOU and YOUR citizens control 100%.

Take your cash and convert it into commodities that allow you to produce useful goods and services when the infrastructure collapses.
