The criteria being that it is a US City, has a metropolitan area of over 500K and some some public transportation.

I'm exploring places where I might possibly move to. Someone here mentioned the Emerald Coast of FLorida, but hurricanes and living too close to the ocean like that makes me paranoid.

The Emerald Coast of FL, yes. I live there. It's great. Anywhere between Ft Walton Beach and Panama City Beach.
