I never said that no places were hiring. I said "finding something to replace."

That means if you were working a $40k a year tech job with some basic insurance, you find something similar. Not 3-4 McJobs paying $9 an hour maybe giving you 12 hours a week. That's what's hiring right now, and there's no "shortage." Those industries never have enough people to fill those jobs because they're shit jobs that pay shit and you deal with shit people every shitty day.

I've had profiles on the big job boards - Monster, Indeed, LinkedIn, USAJobs, some specialty sites - for years. They're still open even though I'm working again because I just don't close them, I ignore what's coming in. You know what I'm getting? The same, tired crap that I've been getting for years. The paint chem place that wants degree'd line techs with chem experience for $10 an hour. The building products manufacturer that wants skilled lab techs for $14. The bespoke electronics company that wants a Bs level person for $17. Recruiters that are so damn stupid they think someone from the east coast is going to move to Missouri for a warehouse job. The company in Santa Barbara that wants electronics people for $20 an hour. All contract, no real jobs to be found. That's what's hiring. There's no change, no excess, no decline, it's the same old shit.

The reason some aren't returning to work is they can't find anything to replace what they had. My previous job as a skilled tech vanished because orders dropped. It's never coming back because the industry it served has cut back. Many of my friends are in the same boat. Hard to support a family on McDonalds. The rest had a taste of what it's like to not have an IOU in your pocket at the end of the week, and don't want to go find another McJob.

TL;DR: There's no shortage of jobs, there's a shortage of jobs that pay a living wage.

I feel like what your typing pretty much proves what I just said all feels aside. There are jobs you want and jobs you need. If your kids are starving or facing homelessness, MCJobs look pretty fucking good, even if you have to work multiples of them to provide.

I guess that's just a difference between certain people though. I find it interesting that you would only be offered $9/hr on the east coast for a mcjob though. I'm sure if an individual has some basic level of competence they would find themselves moving up the chain pretty damn quick in those jobs, especially with the retards our public school system churns out these days.

I know several fast food places between Utah/Colorado/New Mexico that are offering $15+/hr. The cost of living is definitely cheap. Maybe a move would be in order...

Again, I think depending on your own situation, you might feel more entitled to another line of work. If it comes down to it though, I have a family to support and anything is something instead of bitching about having nothing.

I'm not on the east coast. I was using it as an example, I live in the midwest where things are super-cheap, and you're still not paying the rent on what you're working for at McJob. Most of the places here are paying $15, but you're not getting hours so you're working multiples and hoping you can schedule each one around the other, and that you don't spend more in gasoline than you're getting paid. Don't even think about medical insurance.

I have had recruiters calling me to move halfway across the country for a job in a warehouse. That's fucking stupid and anyone that thinks you're going to move for a McJob is out of touch.

My point is that there aren't any jobs out there, at least no more than there were before. No shortages, just the same old tired employers hollering about how they can't find people but when they do they're so inflexible they fire you for the smallest thing and then complain about how they can't find people.

Sounds crazy... Let me ask you a question. Would you drive around vaccuming shit out of septic systems for $28/hr? Because apparently that job pays pretty fucking good and I have a buddy that can't find people to do that either.

Don't get me wrong, I think we are tugging on the same thread here in a lot of respects. I see your point on benefits or pay to help with insurance etc... Let's be honest though, decent healthcare is nearly impossible for 90% of the country regardless of the job. The costs are skyrocketing as we speak and it's useless if you do have it with the amount they charge for deductibles etc...

I agree on the jobs being out there, I also agree with those being the same jobs, with this current administration I don't see that changing for the better though.

These people facing eviction after all this time haven't made any moves though? Come on now. If a decent, motivated person wants to avoid being in that situation, it's very easy to do. I just feel like it requires more effort then they are willing to put in with the handouts Uncle Sam is shilling them.
