Also, you can use flaxseed in place of eggs in recipes as well as chia I believe. I cook constantly so I wouldn't suggest something if it wasn't something I would try or have tried myself. You're welcome to find this information online as well. I thought it was weird as well and when I tried it, I wasn't able to taste any apple taste whatsoever and the cake was pleasantly better because it was moist and fluffy. Vegetable oil is usually soy based and anything is better than soy.
This is correct. Applesauce is a great substitute for oil, especially in cakes. Flaxseed is a binding agent. One of my close relatives is allergic to eggs and we use flaxseed for him.
At least this lends credibility to what I was saying. It's good to know substitutes in a pinch.
I added applesauce to my shopping list, and will try it on the morrow, thank you. If I don't like it, the gators get it (there is a swamp behind my house).
