They're both brainwashed. If a certain narrative does not align with the nature of the reality, you reject that narrative as a de facto false narrative. If your urge to stick to a certain narrative is stronger than the urge to align with the nature of the reality, you are indeed brainwashed. The clearest signs of brainwashing are egotistical attitude, condescension, hurling insults, getting defensive, and becoming emotionally compromised. People getting attached to the narratives are weak human beings who are desperately trying to take control and understand reality. They don't want their views to be shaken to the core in any way lest they lose control. They'll see it as a mortal threat.
