It works both ways, you can drop your employer for any or no reason at will. Not even a two week notice.

You can't be fired for no reason. The at will states just don't have a stupid amount of red tape around getting rid of a useless employee.

yes you can. In an at will state the company doesn't have to give you any reason at all.

They don't have to give a reason. However, if there isn't proof of a valid reason for letting someone go, that employee can easily collect unemployment & raise the UI rates for the former employer. Too much of a risk to not have a paper trail on the employer's end. I hated doing it, but I never had to pay out unemployment for firing someone.
