Carver did not invent peanut butter. Peanut butter was invented by Marcellus Edson, a doctor who wanted patients who couldn't chew meat or eat hard food to be able to get protein.

I visited Carver's birthplace (happened to be in the area with nothing to do), which is definitely worth a visit; it's in the mountains and is a beautiful place. He invented a lot of things and was a genuinely brilliant guy, but didn't invent peanut butter.

He didn't invent it either, the Mayans were making peanut butter a long time ago. As a matter of fact, when you look it up, you get like three fucking people who "invented" peanut butter. They may have been the first to patent it, but not invent it.

The whole thing is stupid, anyway. Mashing peanuts into a paste is not an invention, it's the expected outcome.
