Was going to get one too but it turned out to be 11K installed and 300 a year for maintenance. Pretty expensive for 1 to 2 times a year (I get ice storms and tornadoes). I went with a portable one, a little more effort to switch to, but was only 850. I have a gas furnace so I can power the fan and have heat. During the summer I can use fans or if it's really hot get a small window AC and survive for a week or two. I can run my frig and microwave so I'm good.
I figured about 8-10k but what's the 300/year about?
The warranty on Generac requires annual check ups and oil changes. It might be 300 the first year and 150 a year after, not real sure.
I used mine for 9 days earlier this year and had little problems. Of course, I have to fill it with gas twice a day but that only takes 5 minutes. The price difference and minimal effort made a lot more sense for me.
