People who have views that are shared by the media, promoted by social media, and are generally popular with their bag o' reeses pieces friend group are the most vocal. Your country is literally the origin of "Shy Tory" and I think you would find the number of people who don't want to support endless waves of migrants who produce nothing but inflated housing prices and higher crime is higher than you think, but individuals have no recourse except for the ballot box.
I think you're correct in terms of the British being nationalists but their nationalism leads them closer to national socialist ideology or monarchism. They are very deferential to government authority

NS/Monarchy can be a smaller government than "come get your free shit and you racist whites better not say, do, or think anything to the contrary" because supreme authority and limited scope national security, trade control, corruption purge, infrastructure, and research projects does not have to equate to a big government tit that sucks you dry when you nurse it.

I like the US bill of rights but if I say that in the UK I'm looked at like I have two heads. Some people could live in an explicitly Orwellian society complete with telescreens and child spies and think it was fine so long as they were given state funding
