It isn't that it is new, it is that it has been enabled to this extent with hormonal birth control that we end up paying for through health insurance and taxes and any unwanted children are cared for by the state. We're to believe that before the 40's/50's having a child without a man to support it was a huge liability. That should probably be the case.
