Toohey came from a main drag in Chicago from her time there. Galt's gulch, the train tunnel and the name Taggart came from her train ride when she moved to California. train stop in Taggart, Utah had the gulch and the tunnel. I one day stopped there and left a copy of Atlas Shrugged in their lending library. Oh yes, and the name Galt is from a town near Lodi in California. Don't wanna bore you with all the rest, but that's how it all metastasized in her mind. Similar way Star Wars was written.
