On a daily basis I'm looking up recipes online to cook for the household, and every single recipe on every website requires me to scroll through a novel of content before I get to the Recipe card. I fucking hate that, I want to choke them out and slap their mama who host those websites. "Come check out my video on youtube hit the bell and subscribe!"

NO ALL I WANT IS THE RECIPE AND DIRECTIONS. THERE'S NO NEED TO GO INTO EXCRUTIATING DETAIL AND HAVE A RECIPE CARD WITH THE DIRECTIONS. I DON'T NEED TO KNOW THE INTRICATE DETAILS OF YOUR LIFE AND EXPERIENCE TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT FOR ALL THE PICTURES TO LOAD TO SEE THE DIRECTION. I DON'T WANT TO SCROLL THROUGH THE LONG ASS WEB PAGE JUST TO DISCOVER THERE IS NO RECIPE UNLESS I READ THE SAGA PICTURE BOOK!

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Why don't I use a cookbook? Well, i used to own a 40$ cookbook that was lost with hundreds of dollars of other stuff during an eviction about 4 years ago. I have lots of weird little recipe books and it's hard to sift through them all based on what we actually have in the house. I very rarely have all the obscure ingredients for those recipes unless I planned before hand. But I dont plan as much as I buy everything I need to make several different kind of dishes that are plenty satisfying.

I have tons of family recipes I can share with you, but you first gonna have to listen to my lifelong story.

I share your frustration, but all that nonesense you read through is only there for Google SEO and to be able to slip ads into the text. Yea, you have to scroll past that stuff. It makes it difficult. I don't like recipe videos either, mostly because the "chef" really wants to be an actor. So they turn a 3 minute video into 30 minutes. On the other hand, I've found some pretty good recipes. If I use them often enough, I'll copy/paste the relevent part of the recipe into a word processing document.

If I use them often enough, I'll copy/paste the relevant part of the recipe into a word processing document.

I was doing that, and I should do that but I guess I'm too disorganized, and with a gamer as a fiancé I have to interrupt him constantly to use the computer like a cook book. I like to use my phone, but it's literal shit trying to find that little window where there's actually a recipe

Yea, go to BJs or Costco and buy a cheap i3 notebook. I picked up one for my son and it was about $400. Acutally, you can find them on Amazon pretty cheap too. Wow, I just checkd, under $300! Amazing.

I wouldnt mind one of them. Funny enough, Toddler was given a hand'me'down tablet from my stepmom but we dont have the password to unlock it from safe-mode so I cant use it for anything lol. She doesnt remember the code

I too hate scrolling for 18 pages before getting to the actual recipe. Especially cocktails

cocktails are like only 3 ingredients right? definitely don't need 18 pages of adds just to find the recipe

Sounds like people are just using recipes as clickbait for their blogposts. My advice is just wing it. All you need for a good meal is some meat and one thing that isn't meat. Second part is optional.

I do a lot of winging it. Often a recipe isn't quite what I have in the house but I like certain aspects of the recipe I use. Sometimes it's just a matter of knowing how long to cook how many pounds of meat and I use a different recipe for flavor. I've gotten good enough at cooking now a lot of stuff is eyeballed, but I'm not Gramma level yet so I sometimes burn or over season stuff.

My winging it is much better now than it used to be

Lots of websites you can plug the recipe url into and it’ll spit out a clean, printable recipe.

I didnt know that was a thing, thanks for the tip.

Oh for sure. Ask jewgle. Many to choose from.

What are you looking to cook? Maybe it's something that I or someone else here can share a recipe for?

s/recipes

It's slow and hasn't had a legit post in a year, though.

You sound like someone that needs some instapot in her life.

[–] 1 pt

I have a crock pot, but I no longer have a pressure cooker and alot of other shit I needed for the kitchen from the eviction.

[–] 1 pt

instapot is love, instapot is life

[–] 2 pts

oh yeah, pretty sure I had an instapot pressure cooker and lost it in the god damn eviction. I'm just a basic pleb crawling upon the earth like a fucking moron in a mudhut. Thought I would get a career and buy everything I needed to live above average. Lost most of it during the eviction and now I have to start all over and scrounge around like a poor little bitch

I know your pain, I do the same.

I have come to seek out the "skip to recipe" link wherever it may lie and if not, might even just skip it entirely.

The only site I will abide it with is Serious Eats, because Kenji put them on the right track, and they do actual experiments, with controls and documentation. I appreciate the specifics of what different temps do to chicken in sous vide. Otherwise, yeah, give me the fucking recipe. (And SE has an anchor link to the recipe at the top of the article.)
