It depends on where. I know of two stores in my area where they don't say anything, the rest are sheep feeding the wolves.
My area has no fines or arrests if we defy. The store has to kick us out. My goal is to just refuse give them a hard time. Make a fuss.
I have a lot of experience with this, mostly because I stopped wearing the mask way earlier than most people.
Arguing and making a fuss does not yield good results and ultimately you just get tired of it. Unless you’re just the type of person that loves confrontation and arguing. Also keep in mind these grocery store employees spend all day thinking of arguments and comebacks, go to some grocery store subreddit and you’ll see them scheming strats for harassing massless customers lol. They’re pathetic.
Here is what you do: Walk in to the grocery store. Anybody that tells you to put the mask on… does not exist. Do not engage with them, do not look at them, don’t acknowledge them, literally treat them as if they’re completely invisible, you didn’t hear them and continue shopping.
They do not know how to respond, they might make a few snarky comments, but ultimately don’t know what to do and just end up leaving. All their scheming and arguments they’ve pre planned in their heads are of no use.
Go to the self checkout, pay and leave.
Works every time.
