I'm in the market for one as well. Are you thinking pie parking or something for fishing as well?
IDK, just looking to spend a week floating downstream. I'll figure it out.
Sorry, no idea what the hell I was trying to say but you're way ahead of me, no time for that past time right now. Cabela's/ bass pro spa has some decent ones from what I hear. Would totally but a used one though as you can get them like half off once you figure out what you want.
I have one up north still and used it frequently over the years, from my experience I definitely prefer a sit in vs a sit on. Get at least a 10.5' at the minimum, the short ones, while being lighter, are harder to paddle as they change direction much more easily making progress slower with each stroke. Find one with foam blocks on the inside, it'll greatly help stability. Look for a comfy seat snd sturdy adjustable foot pads on the inside of it, if you fish look for one that'll be easy to strap a rod to as well as cargo space for a cooler.
You could make your own from paper mache.
We have three. Two are cheap sit-in models we got a a local farm supply store several years ago. One is a sit-on version we got at Sam's club. All are entry level for playing at the lake house. Watch for one you like on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. I just did a quick scan on Marketplace, and I'm sure there are 50 or more within an hour's drive from where I am. Bonus...if you find a seller who lives on a lake you could likely test drive it.
