The problem with a 400 ounce good delivery gold bar isn't that you can't take it with you, it is that no one is going to make change. Gold is entirely transportable and that bar has a spot value of nearly $800,000 which isn't massive but it is untraceable and if you're running for your life you won't necessarily care.

It's all of the above. And then the other big issue is verification. Counterfeit bars with tungsten cores are pretty common, even in strict chain of custody with major international banks.

Once you're dealing with more than a couple of bars it becomes non-trivial to verify what you're transporting or holding in a vault is actually solid gold and not a fake.

That size yeah. Only governments and the elite families have stores like that. I'm sure they have it in many hidden locations around the world. These stupid 3rd worlders put it in known vaults at the national bank and their personal mansions. Look how poor quality the pour is too.
