You don't have to put up with that bullshit on a desktop browser. Get some browser plugins like NoScript or ScriptSafe and spend some time training it to keep your JS script burden low and virtually kill off all ads, malware distribution and trackers. Combine these script blockers with uBlock Origin and EFF's Privacy Badger and you've got a great combo of protection and annoyance filtering. Don't put up with this shit.

I remember when NYT was celebrated as a holdout using only HTML. Their site was usable then. It was still NYT content, but was functional.
