Fax machines still exist. Analog phone systems and phone systems themselves still exist. We have so many more modern and clever tools and yet we still rely on some tool people have been using for almost 150 years. I plug my appliances in using the same basic plug my grandfather used while safer alternatives have existed for a long time. I knew some people whose 4 year old died unplugging a Christmas tree over 20 years ago and we still use the same plugs today. Roads are functionally the same as they have been since the 60's, people get in crashes and die constantly and the human race has come up with jack shit on how to even remotely resolve this issue, hundreds if not thousands will die tomorrow in car accidents. Same the next day and every day of the year and every year going forward. I can plug in a speaker I bought today into an amplifier from the 1970's.

We used to have statue carvers, speak like Shakespeare and build cities and arenas that would last a thousand years. There are thousand year old roads, but I've hit 3 potholes this winter. What happened to us?

It's all manipulated at this point. For example, I first heard of growing new teeth with stem cells in the late 90s. Over the years I heard of three different companies (UK, Canada, US) that had successfully conducted animal trials with this technology, and wanted to start human trials. All 3 companies were quickly bought out and the research stopped. So, to this day we're still stuck with drilling, root canals, titanium implants, crowns, etc., when the technology has potentially been there for at least 25 years to grow new teeth. For those interested, it was a reportedly simple technique - take stem cells, implant them in the jaw and then stimulate them to grow. Depending upon the placement in the jaw, the right type of tooth would automatically grow (molar, incisor, etc.)

And then there is the Stanley Meyer water car and many other examples (GenePax).

The US Defense Department has confiscated many thousands of patents over the years - many of those patents would dramatically improve life on this planet. Last count I heard was 10,000 to 12,000.

Wonder what life would be like if the patents were released and inventors would be free to help the world (Tesla anyone)?
