Fax machines still exist. Analog phone systems and phone systems themselves still exist. We have so many more modern and clever tools and yet we still rely on some tool people have been using for almost 150 years. I plug my appliances in using the same basic plug my grandfather used while safer alternatives have existed for a long time. I knew some people whose 4 year old died unplugging a Christmas tree over 20 years ago and we still use the same plugs today. Roads are functionally the same as they have been since the 60's, people get in crashes and die constantly and the human race has come up with jack shit on how to even remotely resolve this issue, hundreds if not thousands will die tomorrow in car accidents. Same the next day and every day of the year and every year going forward. I can plug in a speaker I bought today into an amplifier from the 1970's.

We used to have statue carvers, speak like Shakespeare and build cities and arenas that would last a thousand years. There are thousand year old roads, but I've hit 3 potholes this winter. What happened to us?

Just a reminder -

What happened to the people that made the 3000 year old roads is now happening again to us.

It's all manipulated at this point. For example, I first heard of growing new teeth with stem cells in the late 90s. Over the years I heard of three different companies (UK, Canada, US) that had successfully conducted animal trials with this technology, and wanted to start human trials. All 3 companies were quickly bought out and the research stopped. So, to this day we're still stuck with drilling, root canals, titanium implants, crowns, etc., when the technology has potentially been there for at least 25 years to grow new teeth. For those interested, it was a reportedly simple technique - take stem cells, implant them in the jaw and then stimulate them to grow. Depending upon the placement in the jaw, the right type of tooth would automatically grow (molar, incisor, etc.)

And then there is the Stanley Meyer water car and many other examples (GenePax).

The US Defense Department has confiscated many thousands of patents over the years - many of those patents would dramatically improve life on this planet. Last count I heard was 10,000 to 12,000.

Wonder what life would be like if the patents were released and inventors would be free to help the world (Tesla anyone)?

Are we digressing?

No, we're regressing. We are headed toward a new Dark Age. It will be characterized by a widespread illiteracy. What we have now, technologically, is the best we are going to get. There won't be any more great break-throughs such as we saw in the 1940s and 1950s. The computer revolution was the last one. General IQ levels are dropping and will continue to fall. The quality of education from the major universities continues to decline. The new Dark Age will be an age of barbarism, perversion, and ugliness.

What's wrong with that?

There are thousand year old roads, but I've hit 3 potholes this winter.

The "indestructable Roman road" is a myth. The only reason you still see a few exist today is because they were very lightly traveled or fell into disuse.

Roman soldiers did road repair and construction when not at war.

I know a town that has a brick street that was put in about 100 years ago. They did some maintenance to it in the 80's, but other than that, it's pretty much always been there and it's heavily travelled. Never seen a pothole on that road.

Probably because semi trucks aren't driving over it frequently.

Yep, tech stopped advancing around the mid-1950s. Nothing gets built these days, there is nothing really new.

Planed Obsolescence is more profitable.

Got a 1 year warranty? That thing is designed to break in 370 days.

The FAA is singularly the reason aviation technology is largely unchanged. They massively increase costs and arguably decrease aviation safety. They've effectively created regulatory capture of all things aviation, which prevents innovation and creates massive barriers to entry.

Free travel without tracking is contrary to the wishes of our overlords. So they are destroying light GA. It will be almost dead in another generation or two without major changes.

A new plane, such as a 172 or 182 should cost around $60-80k (that's adjusted for inflation). Which means if you can afford a new bass boat you could afford a plane (terms would be 1-15 years vs 1-4). But in reality, expect to up to $500,000.

Additionally, canard aircraft are significantly safer and modern engines, aerodynamics, and engineering means you can fly two people at 150-250 mph at around 30mpg or better. But certification makes this almost impossible because the FAA hates canards and few are willing to invest in new technologies because the FAA loathes to certify it.

The FAA is largely controlled by airlines and exists to minimize competition. Fewer people flying themselves means more commercial passengers and greater social control. Almost all aviation safety improvements over the last forty to fifty years have been driven by pilots and engineers, in spite of the FAA's efforts. But the FAA's official position is all pilots are trying to kill themselves, therefore the FAA's regulatory burden is what prevents this.

All of the fruits of our productivity are being consumed by increasing numbers of third world leeches receiving public benefits.

We outsourced manufacturing. Not only did we outsource jobs, we lost skills. We also stopped investing in the future. The elites have run away with our money and spend it in terrible ways.
