There is no over-population problem. What we have is an under-energy problem, which has been artifically created by the same people who have given us the global warming scam and the Covid hysteria.
The under-energy problem is very easy to fix. We simply use more energy. The more energy we use, the higher our standard of living and the more people the Earth can comfortably support. There is no energy shortage -- there never was an energy shortage. That is a lie of those who want to send us back to the Dark Ages. Energy is limitless, and only good comes from using more of it.
Everything the left tells you is a lie. Everything. Everything liberals have said and written about energy use over the past fifty years has been a lie. Stop listening to these fucking morons. We need more coal, more oil, more natural gas, and more nuclear power, if we are to move into a safe, peaceful, united future as a species, and move into space, which is our collective destiny.

When people say "overpopulation" they mean in the Malthusian sense that there are too many consumers and not enough resources. Malthusian ceilings still exist, but ever since the Industrial Revolution countries have managed to push it up with technology (more efficiency, more output, less waste, etc.). So, theoretically it's a thing, but realistically it's not a concern.
So someone is making some determination of "too many". Then someone is determining how to cull the population (in our case, it's an injection of a poison). Then someone is determining how to maintain a certain level. China was doing that and really fucked up their population causing families to kill off their daughters. Sick shit.
Industrial societies haven't been very good at realizing technology and market forces have broken and will continue to break the Malthusian cycle. Nor do many people realize how fast birthrates are declining (even outside the Industrial world young countries are aging quickly as they industrialize).
A lot of well-meaning people think our planet holding 7 billion is dangerous without thinking about birthrates or how population growth is seriously slowing, so they demand immediate government action without thought to how people can sort out their problems.
Pretty much why young people love socialism: it's easier to see every problem needing government action rather than let emergent resolutions arise.
I tend to go with one of Isaac Arthur's (youtube.com) irritatingly positive outlooks on humanity that Earth could support a trillion individuals, if only humanity would get its shit together.

You COULD, but there is so much more space than people realize that the practical limitation is not over populating the planet, but over populating the will of politicians and the power-hungry.

This is where terms matter. Yes, it is uncomfortably crowded. That is my point: over population would mean there is no longer enough space or food. This is not correct. Some kleptocrats have decided they don't like the current population and they are trying to sell the concept of murdering billions of people. We're past that stage now. The kleptocracy is in full blown execution stage. Billions of people are beginning to be murdered. The upsetting part is the very people being murdered are in fact going along with the idea.
