The problem is that often the word “soul” can mean something different depending on who you’re taking to.

CS Lewis was a Christian man, and very wise, so I don’t hold this against him..but even in different biblical translations the terms “soul” and “spirit” got conflated (by the translators), yet there is a difference between the soul and the spirit. But because of that conflation, many people, including Christians, get the two conflated.

From everything I have come to understand, man is a three-part being. Which makes sense, since we were created in the image of God and he is also a three parts in one.

Spirit: the part of you that lives forever, gets born again/saved (or not), and will spend eternity in one of two places. This is the “real” you.

Soul: this is your psyche..your mind, your psychological makeup. I heard a pastor say once that your soul is the interface between your body and spirit.. it’s what allows your spirit to interact with the physical world. I think that is an apt description. Your soul is not saved along with your spirit. This is a part of you that is constantly being sanctified throughout your life (if you’re saved)..or at least, it’s the part of you that you are constantly trying to sanctify, though it is a challenge. See verses about “the renewing of your mind with the washing of the word”. This is also the battleground on which the war between you and the enemy/satan/demons takes place. The enemy can’t touch the spirit of a Christian, but he will constantly wage war against you in the soul/psychological realm.

Body: the physical earth suit that your spirit inhabits. You must have a body to participate in the physical world. When that ceases to happen, your spirit leaves this realm. It’s also not saved along with your spirit. But the believer will get a new body one day when the end has come, according to the Bible.

You’re welcome, I’ll be here all week.
