Well how about the blood or just all the cells since they are the immune system and much more than we've all been taught in the past. Maybe it's the organisms that make up 60% of our mass I imagine they like the ones in our stomachs send signals or chemical responses to our bodies in reaction to certain conditions. It could be many things including a soul that is not proven but I believe that is a very high possibility.
