So what do you think about this statement: The starter coil is partially shorted.
On initial look, one could say "no, it's either shorted or not". But if the short occured so that current still flowed through part of the coil the effect would be that the magnetic field was weaker and unable to energise the solenoid. So the use of "partially" would indicate the condition of the coil and also why the starter failed.
Stick your finger on the positive lead to see if there's any current. ⁿᵒ ᵈᵒⁿ'ᵗ ᵈᵒ ᵗʰᵃᵗ

That one I can buy, but diodes do not turn on and off they are basically a one way valve for electricity, I’ve seen partially blow fuses but this is just a person trying to kick the can down the road
