The quote is widely attributed to Emma Goldman, though there is no direct source for this. It is also incorrectly attributed to Mark Twain and Philip Berrigan. The origin of this quote is, therefore, disputed. The earliest known example of the quote so far is from a 1976 newspaper opinion piece Voting is Dishonest and Fraudulent
