Just thought I'd share with you guys what you can earn from a local livestock auction on quail.

Quail eggs went for $9 a dozen (fertile).

The day old chicks went for $2-3/ea.

Adult birds went for $2-4 each.

As usual the price depends upon how early you put your birds/eggs in, it's first drop off, first auctioned the day of the auction. They keep brooders for chicks. Also the weather really impacts the number of people, prices were way down and hardly anyone stayed to the end last weekend, it was raining and super cold. Great way to get bargains if you're shopping.

I sold a rooster for $14. I thought that was crazy since people are trying to give the things away most of the time.

Auction here takes 20% + $1 if you want them to mail your check.

Swedish flower! He was a mean bastard, too.

Saw one rooster try to attack the auction assistant through the wires, was pretty funny. That rooster went for more than mine. I guess people want mean roos to protect their flock!

Pretty birds. They are similar to Amerucanas (my favorite) where no two are alike. They are considered endangered so maybe that's why he paid you instead of you paying him to take it off your hands.

There were roosters that were no kind of breed just barnyard, and they still went from $8-20. If I had gotten there earlier the bid might've been higher. I was just glad to be rid of him xD.

I agree about how beautiful they are. His twin is still here and he's not trying to challenge everyone who comes in his path. He also doesn't abuse the hens. That rooster was definitely a "muh dick" oogabooga.
