This is awesome! I love quail. I hunt california quail along the Snake River. And I've always wanted to raise coturnix. They're my favorite bird. Have been since I was a kid.

Hello, fellow quail lover! Welcome to s/Quail.

I hatched out hundreds in 2020. I wish I had kept better track of numbers. We have wild bob whites here, and a large female might be 6-8oz. Some of my coturnix push a pound. I posted a pic yesterday with breasts on the left and leg/thighs on the right. You'll immediately notice the difference in leg meat between the wild and domestic.

I hope you subscribe, so I can twist your arm into raising some of your own. I have a lot more pics and stories and info to come!

You forgot to tell them why quail are so popular for raising at home.

Chickens take 16 weeks before they start laying but quail are half that time.

You are correct! Jumbo quail are ready to butcher at least by the 8th week and begin laying at ~6 weeks. Also, a quail will have layed 100 eggs before a chicken lays its first. I have a ton more info to build up on here! Stick around or sub and keep pointing out cool stuff or asking questions.
