Not really. Because that's the site he works live on. I mean set up a dummy voat, exact clone of live voat. Then run the upgrade script on it.

He develops on the preview site and then updates to the current version on that site, repeats until he's ready to go real. There gets to be a point where as much testing as can be done with a limited userbase and then needs the real Voat to dig any deeper. I dare say he and the developers have it handled better than either of us could.

I don't do this shit for a living, so I'm just spitballing. You sound defensive. Who's alt are you? ;) There's always a way to do things better, that's my philosophy for everything in life. If what I do is hacky and full of problems, I look for solutions rather than workarounds. That's just who I am. Maybe I should help with the testing more often. *shrug emoticon*

I don't do IT stuff, but the SW I deal with can appear very robust, and then the littlest hiccup/noise/change causes a failure. Throw in hundreds of users hitting the servers all at once, and who knows what is going to break. Also, when a site is done for a while, I suspect there's a traffic spike when it comes back up. Normally, people come and go, stop and read, post, etc. Imagine all those people with pent up emotions and news all wanting to post at the same time.

Anyway, my $0.02, for what it's worth.

Sorry if I misrepresented my views. I am not defending anything. As long as any of these sites allow me to follow my limited interests I am a happy camper. I realize there are significant things happening in the world, again, but I've served my time in the trenches decades ago.

I am impressed with the efforts of PMYB2, AOU, and Putt, and recognize they are doing what they do out of a passion for free speech. It is indeed an honorable pursuit.
