The “housing” they provide is terrible and semi-cruel. I knew we had VA homes around but never knew what they were put through.
These two guys I know were both Vietnam Vets. One served during 67-69 era of the war the other was younger and was there the last year of the war, no reinforcements draftees, ARVN and civilians who had helped Americans everywhere, but we never knew he had severe ptsd.
He retired from a corporate job that involved a lot travel and no down time, so we’d only see him maybe once a month at most. He retired right before Covid and didn’t we see him for a couple of years and and I guess he kinda lost it thinking with all that time on his hands.
He blew through his savings who knows how, I’m sure drugs and buying stupid shit were involved and he only had his social security left.
He ended up in a VA group home and I believe they took part of his SS money, he was left with $500 or something a month.
He started to refuse to pay since it was his money and the government should be providing housing to disabled/ptsd vets for free and of course that was causing problems with other vets agreeing with him.
They deemed him a “threat” to himself and others which I guess happens quite often according to the other vets I’ve talked to who won’t step foot in one of those places.
He had five days to leave, get a new place or DHS was taking him to one of their centers and he wouldn’t be able to leave because he was a “threat”(WTF, DHS has housing centers you can’t leave because you’ve been deemed a threat?) it was somewhere in the middle of Washington state that’s all I can remember.
He was petrified, he had to show proof of new residence and that he could afford it. He was begging everyone to let him move in and he’d pay rent of $500 until he got his full benefits back after leaver the VA center.
I offered but another vet said a few minutes later, they have him on so many meds I wouldn’t trust him any longer, he goes into fits of rage from the meds, so I gave him a fake number and disappeared for a few weeks. I really didn’t want to get tangled up with the VA or DHS keeping a tab on him.
Luckily old job took him back and provided him a relocation assistance and got him out of the the VA system and in a different state.
Sounds crazy but from what everyone said and knew, I even saw the paperwork it was one fucked up situation.

Yeah, it’s bizarre.
We were pretty much locked up all of 2020 and finally ventured out spring of 2021 when our overlords allowed us to stay out last 8:00pm.
Portland proper in 2021 was boring everyone was gone, it was dead. In 2022 it was violent as hell and 70% of the people we had ever seen were gone. Another 20% were at a few different places we didn’t but would stop in for s few minutes to say hello. All the new people at our regular place wanted to fight over the dumbest shit.
We stayed in the burbs after a couple of trips in 2021 and the same thing with the people being gone and everyone knew but no violence.
2022 five trips to Portland, 5 fights over the dumbest shit, i kicked the crap out of each one, it was fun as hell lmao. I don’t go out to fight but to have fun.
Once people believed I was the “racist” aggressor from 20 feet away minding my business talking to a black conservative(they don’t know either of us are conservatives) but it got straitened out. Before then in 30 years, I had one guy try to attack me and I had to deal with him. But give in 5 weeks I’d crazy and not fun constantly having to watch your back.
We went back to the burbs, ran in to my buddy and his wife from high school who were regulars and started asking where everyone was.
I had seen a few in 2021 but now it was only maybe five people out of 100+ We somewhat knew and a completely different crowd.
They were nice but not the people we had known for 10 years and more somber and not talkative.
The break down was Dead, Covid dead, strokes, extremely sick and can’t work or come out(vaxxed), moved due to housing prices, moved because a roommate splitting rent died, became disable and couldn’t pay, moved because of the stupidity or became a drug addict. Then next were homeless and became drug addicts or vice versa. Oh and a few divorces that could totally be seen a few years before by everyone except the married guys who were idiots.
We haven’t made it out yet this year, I’m sure it will be even less people.
In Portland within 3 weeks last fall at our regular spot, 5 people getting hit in the back of the head with rocks by violent people and hospitalized. 1 guy shot at a table after he was giving free tarot card readings and the nigger didn’t like his reading and walked back in 5 minutes later and shot him 5 times while he was giving someone else a reading. Then a wife killed her husband after being asked to leave for arguing about gambling too much(video lottery)as her husband was walking out arguing with her she shot and killed him, married 15 years. He was a real nice guy, never met the wife.
Every place in the burbs except 3 or 4 close at 11:30 now because they don’t want the violent crowd showing up but you can’t go to the places that stay open later because all the violent and young kids show up at those 3 or 4 places at midnight after the other bars close, so of course those places are violent because you’ve moved them all to only 4 locations instead of 50+.
My girlfriend went to have a cigarette on Halloween in the burbs about 9pm and I went inside to get drinks and got stuck behind a large group who’d just shown up.
While I was inside some large burrito nigger walked up from the side walk behind her, pushed her extremely hard face first into the wall in the corner almost knocking her out, lifted up her skirt up and pulled her underwear down and started to unzip his pants to rape her, she was in shock/surprised at first then she yelled out to “our friend” and the burrito nigger was never heard from again. He just disappeared after a beating and being tossed in a car that immediately left.
This is my extremely bad “friend” who’s “family” and I keep in touch with and pretend to really like just in case I ever need a “favor” like that night(I accidentally met years ago and didn’t know what he did or who he actually was until years later) I’m talking scary bad at what he does and what people he controls do. But I guess all the pretending paid off.
Luckily he was there that night and we were hanging out because I was inside for another 15 minutes waiting on drinks for the 3 of us and nobody else except some scared white millennials were around who didn’t do anything.
Now even the burbs are getting so ass backwards that I can’t leave her alone for 15 minutes with a large group of “normal” people around without some random guy walking in to rape a random girl(my gf this time) as people don’t even try to help but just sip there drinks and look the other in silence like nothing is happening.
Precovid he would’ve been beaten by everyone out there, the new group are like zombie pussies and don’t care or want to get involved. Maybe it’s the vax, who knows. But “male feminists” apparently don’t exist lmao or maybe they didn’t want to appear racist so they were going to sacrifice a women to be on the right side of history.

The increase in senseless violence across the country is alarming - and this while people are still reasonably "comfortable." Throw scarcity of resources, like food, into the mix, and it will get really ugly.

I hope so too. Most everyone is gone, either died from Covid/vax or had to move because of rent/house prices.
I hardly know anyone around here anymore except a few and they were never friends with him. So I hope he’s doing ok. The guy who did know him has disappeared also.
