I will tell tell you I have witnessed a small generator power a nightstand sized cell with no battery in the loop. Now it required a fresh supply of water from the water hose( the cell doesn't like hot water) so that's a pumping loss that was not accounted for So......could the generator have extra watts to power other stuff? not really, maybe some LED lighting. I disagree with you on the third world part, mostly because that phrase has lost a lot of meaning since the internet and cell phone , even desditute homeless have access to life changing information, it too bad they can't read.
