Being that this was the *ONLY* possible outcome, it has succeeded because the desired outcome was achieved. If I say I'm going to punch myself in the balls and then when I do, I writhe in agony on the ground. I've achieved what I set out to do and the consequences of me doing so are predictable and undeniable.
