Self governing status? Wtf does that mean?
The article says they're exempt from certain florida laws? Like what, specifically?
I’m pretty sure they were like their own little territory like that of Washington DC.
I watched a documentary on it about a year ago.
They were going to do a resort condo on Disney property but they axed it and make them rentals with residency limits so no one can contest their district.
I was wondering that as well. Is it even legal to give a corporation exemption from certain laws? Seems like every mega-corp would be bribing state legislators to exempt them from laws they didn't like obeying. Is it legal to give an individual person exemptions?
I know that sometimes developers are given exemptions from zoning laws to build something but that is a one-time event for a specific project, not a blanket exemption.
It’s an old deal Walt worked out with Orange County back when the area was all value-less swamp. The deal made Florida a ton of $$ over the years in tourism dollars.
