Matthew 26:39 has a theme similar to the above verses. And later when someone tried to stop him from being arrested (Matthew 26:53-54) - "Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?"

This speaks somewhat to the impressiveness of the event. He knew he could get out of it but went along with it anyway (Matthew 26:53-54). If someone asked any of us to die on behalf of the rest of the human population, knowing how many awful people are out there, I doubt many of us would say yes.
