A little background info to help shape our understanding of this conflict:

After the overthrow of the previous government, Ukraine had a regular federal armed forces, that of course worked for the government. Initially, they were not involved in the attacks on the Russian population of Ukraine. Those attacks came from the nazi battalions, who, after the government changed, began a campaign of ethnic cleansing of villages in Russian speaking areas of Ukraine.

It was this campaign that caused the Russians speakers to mobilize into civil defense units. That eventually led to a movement for autonomy. The Ukrainian government did not use it's military to contain the nazi's, and to protect Russian Ukrainians, as they should have.

This now threatened the sovereignty of Ukraine itself. Eventually, the military was ordered to restore control of the Russian speaking areas, which led to the direct military conflict between the Ukrainian military and the Russian civil defense units.

It was during this attempt to retake the Russian areas that the Ukrainian military was gutted on the battlefield. My estimates are they took losses of greater than 100,000 killed and wounded. The attacks stalemated in 2015 when the Ukraine ran out of troops. Stalemate has dominated the situation from then 'til now.

Looking back at 2015, the Ukrainian army now broken, the government, any government, of Ukraine, is now held hostage by the nazi's. Without an effective fighting force with which to control the nazi's, how can any future elected government operate as the true authority in the country? The nazi's operate their own battalions, integrated with the military, but also separated from the military - taking orders from oligarchs, separate from government command. Thus the government is ever captured by the oligarchs.

So, they needed to rebuild their army. Ukraine conducted five or six drafts of fighting age adult males in their population, and NATO was brought in to provide training, and to rearm and reequip these new soldiers. They've been doing that since at least 2016. American, British, Canadian, and other NATO countries have provided what was needed for this.

Biden gets elected, and now Ukraine has it's new army, all trained up and ready to go. Do they use the army to stand down the nazi battalions and restore federal order over the military? No, instead they massively increase weapons imports and prepare for the new great offensive against the ethnic Russians once again.

That's NATO for you.

So now the Russians will remove the nazi's for Ukraine. Ukraine cannot be fixed as a valid democratic government while the nazi's remain.
