As long as claimed ignorance is allowed to be used as a defense, it will be used as a weapon. Meaning, companies (and let me be clear here..the decision makers) absolutely will jump into anything, regardless of how immoral, unethical, criminal, or sadist...knowing full well that they believe they have immunity through a claimed "not knowing". They're putting all their eggs into the "you have to prove it" basket.
