He's trying to escape blame by saying it wasn't his idea, and "they" talked him into it. Remember, he didn't take the shot, which is evidence he knew it was dangerous.
As long as claimed ignorance is allowed to be used as a defense, it will be used as a weapon. Meaning, companies (and let me be clear here..the decision makers) absolutely will jump into anything, regardless of how immoral, unethical, criminal, or sadist...knowing full well that they believe they have immunity through a claimed "not knowing".
They're putting all their eggs into the "you have to prove it" basket.
That's my read too. Not my fault.
Remember they are always on the right side of history when the narrtive doesn't work anymore.
So now they have to play the well we didn't know game.
