Just as a point of interest, one of the first warning signs I noticed that indicated to me that Western culture was in a downward spiral was the embracing of torture both by the US government, and by Hollywood. Almost overnight, every Hollywood drama had scenes of torture in it. It went from no torture scenes on television, to torture scenes in every drama within a single year. This was right after 9-11, when George W. Bush was telling everyone in the world, "You're either with us against us." This was when all those Arabs got sent to Gitmo without due legal process. Some of them are still there. Now we have political prisoners being held without trial and without bail for supposedly "storming the Capitol." I wonder if they are being tortured? I bet they are, though maybe not in overt ways. The acceptance of torture as a societal norm is a sure sign that the society is headed for destruction.
