A loaded question but was seriously asking. Even from a Christian perspective there are many gods, but only one true God. In the story of babble, it's the gods who solicit action from God to condemn mankind for hubris and a reach for heaven before we are mature enough to do so. I mention this, because I'm not so sure "fake" is appropriate. Imoho, the "sky peoples" of your people's oral history are some of these angels and gods.
