Your clause is the weaker clause, not because you're wrong, but because details like that don't matter to the public, which you are trying to appeal to.
"Democracy" is a sexy word for too many people, on all sides, carrying connotations of "freedom", "liberty", and "the american way" for tens of millions of people just in the u.s.
Thats why its more effective to argue ukraine isn't a democracy and never has been.
Then again I could be wrong. That might just lend strength to the notion that we have to go fight "to BRING them democracy."
I kind of just wish more people could be debrainwashed, realize what democracy really is, not just the definition of the word but the history of it, represenative democracy, they do let people vote in Ukraine then the representatives sell them out just like in other countries.
