I once caught banks intentionally with internal proof reordering debits so they could maximize overdraft penalties.
I made like 5 small purchases then one large one. The large one was the one that over drafted. I ended up getting like 5 overdraft fees. I went in to the place flipping out, saying I knew how much I had in there and no way I overdrafted 5 times in a row. They printed their internal docs showing the ordering and handed me the docs.
And I said well heres the issue, you fucking rearranged the ordering of when the charges happened so the smaller ones happened after the larger one! They freaked out, ripped the internal docs from my hand and said they were closing my account, my business wasn't welcome and stealing the overdraft fees.
Wow, no one should be treated that way - but I can absolutely see them doing that.
one thing i thought many times when i was in england was that for a place that was apparently the forefront of banking for centuries the bank transfers are fcking backwards, and our banks here in australia have gone backwards. we are now back to these week long clearing times where you are magically able to charge more than you have and you get hit up, and its random so its not like you can do a bunch of shopping then sneak in a packet of cigarettes or a bill intentionally or something
