Teaching kids gun safety is right up there with sex safety. The earlier they learn the better off they will be. When I was in the 7th grade I was on a rifle team and we practiced in a gun range below the High School building.

The internet is going insane over a photo shared on social media of grade school kids in Wyoming learning gun safety.

The photo has spread like wildfire since being posted on Facebook garnering 66,000 shares and over 6,000 comments as of Tuesday afternoon.

The original posters have removed the photo, but as you know, the internet is forever.

Most comments were positive, but many people condemned teaching these kids about “gun safety,” and a lot of commenters said it was “training the next school shooter.”

Good grief.

You can't teach gun safety too soon for kids. They love them and if they havea respectful teacher they will keep what they learn for their whole lives.

The highschool I went to had an "Advanced PE" program that you could take based on your GPA. It included reloading shotgun shells (on school grounds) and traveling to the local trap shooting club to shoot for trap (during school hours). I dont know if it is still in place but I would bet that it is.

Trap and skeet shooting is definitely a lot of fun and I bet a lot of kids would love it!

Not only that. People that understand guns and have used them are not scared of them. A gun (unless there is an insane level of mechanical failure somehow in a very specific type and situation) will never go off on its own.

Any tool that you do not understand can be scary. People are scared of opening up a computer to add/remove/upgrade a component. If you show them how to do it a few times and explain it... Its lost its mystery and they are not going to be scared of it anymore.

Same goes for working on your own car. If you dont know how to change your oil or a flat tire then you will freak out if you get a flat tire.. If you have changed a tire then you will go get a jack and your spare and change the tire rather than breaking down.

Lack of training and understanding makes people scared. Stop teaching some of this useless social crap and teach practical things like auto maintenance, gun safety, cooking, etc...
