If you have a DL or Passport they have this info already anyway.
Does the IRS have our passports and DL? Obviously, they have our SSNs.
And what about this selfie crap to verify? Does that have to be taken on a phone?
All this info is going to a third party - and with what third parties and partners does ID.me share?
We need all these third parties out of things - That's how they were able to abuse the Paycheck Protection Plan and send all that money to "Nigerians." They like to use third parties for the same reason the military uses mercenaries - because they can get away with doing things that they wouldn't otherwise be legally allowed to do.
One thing I'm sure the IRS and ID.me would LOVE to do is run that facial recognition on peaceful protesters at events like Jan 6th and target them for audits and other "punishments" like Lerner did with conservative NGOs.
I don't care what these agencies already have - I know it's substantial - but let's not give them and their third parties MORE - That is simply stupid.
you're naive to think they don't already have it all. there is so much sharing of data going on now that the DL and Passport data for sure is accessible to ALL gov agencies if they want it. The only good thing is 3/4 of the gov is still shut down or working from home because of covid, which makes them inefficient.
I'm not naive. And I'm not saying they don't have all this info. What I'm saying is why give them and a third party more? This is the kind of thinking that frustrates the heck out of me - it's right up there with "I don't have anything to hide, so it doesn't matter to me if they intrude on every aspect of my life."
