This is why I recommended to have a gas powered generator with you in the past. While funny I was not joking. Here is the proof.

In the future perhaps the battery technology will be better. I'm envisioning some type of fuel cell looking long rod that can be swapped out and is portable, so you can keep a backup in the car at home, etc. AAA would come to you on the side of the road and pop in a new rod and you're back in business. In the future you'd get these at "gas" stations (really service stations).

It'd be like swapping a propane tank at Home Depot or wherever, you bring an old one to swap or purchase a new one. Pay for the new one and the old one is placed in a receptacle for recharging. No more plugging the car in and waiting 45 mins or whatever. Only if they were able to get the charging time down to say 5 minutes then would the "charging" station idea be moderately tenable.

However, such a solution would take a lot of different industries to be on board. The battery makers, all the car makers will need to argree on the same form factor and voltage standards etc. The current recharge the battery that's in the car is a start but it's definitely not the best option and long term I think the swappable battery solution would be better, unless they miraculously find a way to super charge a battery in 5 minutes.

Right now though they are a tougher sell, especially to people in cold/snowy areas. Alas...
